An exciting year ahead

2019 will be an exciting year for Fairfield City as we build upon the success of 2018, which saw us named the most progressive city and regional council in NSW at the A R Bluett Memorial Awards.

Council begins the year in a strong financial position, having recorded a $9 million budget surplus for the financial year while keeping our rates among the lowest in NSW.

This means we can invest in major projects and infrastructure while maintaining the high quality services that our residents have come to expect.

This year we are on track to finish the events area, synthetic soccer pitch and amenities building at Fairfield Showground. Residents will soon be able to enjoy the early results of our hard work, with the new playing fields to be ready to use early this year.

Council will build and improve more parks across the City. Villawood and Carramar families will benefit from a new neighbourhood park, with work to finish by the end of 2019.

We also commence the process to establish a new library in Fairfield.

Major works will also begin to upgrade Smithfield Road to four lanes to ease traffic congestion and make travel safer. Council will also build a new multilevel car park on Hughes Street in Cabramatta to improve access to parking for residents, visitors and businesses.

Council is committed to investing in the infrastructure that promotes healthy, active and affordable lifestyles for families, while maintaining a robust financial position and keeping rates low. I look forward to the exciting year ahead.
