Exciting year ahead

I’m pleased to announce that our most important planning document for the year, the Draft 2019-2020 Operational Plan, is now on public exhibition until 29 April.

The Operational Plan lists all the projects and expenditure of Council planned for the next financial year 2019-2020. It includes everything from major projects like the construction of the Hughes Street car park in Cabramatta, to footpaths and play equipment throughout the City.

I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to read and provide feedback on the plan.

Some of the major projects for the community include:

• Further expansion of the Aquatopia Water Park
• Construction of the Hughes Street car park in Cabramatta
• Widening of Smithfield Road into four lanes
• Continued redevelopment of the Fairfield Showground into a Regional Multicultural and Sporting Centre of Excellence
• Creating a new community park in Villawood
• Fit out of a new Fairfield Branch Library.

As well as these exciting projects, Council will continue to deliver quality services, including:

• Almost $12 million for upgrading local roads
• $5.5 million for the renewal of our community centres, childcare centres, car parks, libraries and leisure centres
• $2.3 million on new and upgraded footpaths
• $1.4 million for town centre upgrades
• $1.4 million for upgrades to parks and reserve amenities, sportsgrounds and play equipment.

This is just a snapshot of the exciting things we are doing for the City’s residents. We are doing this and a lot more while maintaining our strong financial position - with a budgeted operating surplus of $3.5 million in the next year - and keeping rates among the lowest in Sydney.

You can view the draft operational plan on Council’s website from Friday, 29 March. Physical copies can also be viewed at Council’s Administration Building, libraries and leisure centres. Have your say by email, post or through the website.
