Community Spirit Award

I am pleased to announce that this year Council will recognise young people in our community who are quick to lend a helping hand and show great pride in their local community or the City as a whole.

At last night’s Council Meeting, councillors voted in favour of creating the Mayor’s Community Spirit Award, which will be awarded to an outstanding graduating Year 12 student from each of the City’s 15 high schools at their end of the year assembly or awards night.

Teachers and staff from each school will select one Year 12 student to be the school’s winner.

These students can be either consistent or outstanding in their displays of kindness and/or service. They can be in service of the school, the Fairfield City community or a local charity. The duration, scale and level of impact of the service will all be taken into consideration when choosing the winners.

Each school’s winner will be presented with a certificate and a $300 cash prize.

This will be an annual and long-lasting commendation to recognise and encourage good works in our community by our City’s youth.

I will soon be in touch with each of these high schools to invite them to be part of this exciting new award.

Happy Father’s Day

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all fathers a very happy Father’s Day for Sunday. Father’s Day is an opportunity to honour the father in your life.

There are plenty of great places around our City to celebrate the day with your family.

Pack a picnic lunch and take a walk along the Bush Tucker Path in Bonnyrigg Park, the shores of Chipping Norton Lake, or explore the massive Western Sydney Parklands. More adventurous dads might enjoy the TreeTops Adventure Park or the Fairfield Adventure Park.

Happy Father’s Day!
