Celebrating Year 6 graduates

I am pleased to announce that once again I will be awarding graduating Year 6 students across our City with certificates and Aquatopia passes to celebrate their special milestone.

There are few more important events in a young person’s life than graduating from primary school. Not only is it a major milestone for young people and their families, it also forms the foundation on which future education and training is built.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visits to the schools last year and seeing the excitement on the students’ faces as they received their graduation certificates and Aquatopia passes. It was the perfect way for Council to honour each student as they marked the end of one journey and the beginning of another.

This year we are presenting two passes to each student so that they can celebrate their milestone with a friend or a family member. The total cost of these passes is $80,000 and is a cost being covered entirely by Council. We will also be providing family passes to the school that they can use for fundraising.

Building Aquatopia is all about community. It is about giving our local community a wonderful facility and last year more than 70,000 people came and enjoyed Aquatopia across the summer months. It has been an amazing success.

We have more than 3,000 Year 6 students at 38 schools and I hope to be able to visit each and every one of them again this year. I can think of no better way for Council to recognise the important milestone of graduating primary school than by giving students the coolest way to celebrate their achievement by opening the gates of Aquatopia to them this summer.
