Building a healthier Fairfield City

Council’s infrastructure upgrades are continuing across the City.

The latest improvements are at Adams Park, Canley Vale, where basketball and badminton courts have just been completed. These upgrades follow on from work completed last year to build a new walking track and 56-space car park.

The new courts and walking track provide residents with the additional opportunity to get out and get active and the car park provides better access for park visitors and more parking for the local school.

These upgrades have transformed this local park. The final result is great and it’s testimony to the hard work put in by everyone involved.

Also on the drawing board for Adams Park are additional basketball and badminton courts as well as grass volleyball courts.

I am working hard with Council to improve leisure and recreation facilities throughout our City. At last Tuesday’s Council meeting, Council endorsed an initiative to investigate building a boot camp-style obstacle course and tree top walk at the Fairfield Adventure Park precinct in Fairfield Park.

This boot camp course could include a tyre run, vertical rope climbs and overland cargo net for adults, plus a less difficult course for children.

Additionally, due to the spread of trees within the park area, I asked staff to investigate the possibility of a cargo net tree top walk and provision of educational information about trees and the environment. This will be an eco-friendly installation that will be great for the body as well as the mind.

The outcome would be a large recreation precinct at Fairfield Park, a perfect place for a family day out and just a 10-minute walk from Fairfield Station and CBD.
