Activities during Water Safety Week

As the weather is warming up the swimming season is fast approaching.

Summer in Australia is the peak drowning period, with approximately one-third of yearly drowning deaths occurring in summer.

As part of NSW Water Safety Week, from 28 September to 2 October, our leisure centres will be running a range of demonstrations and classes to help encourage water safety in the community.

I encourage everyone to get in contact with one of our leisure centres to find out the full range of activities on offer.

Endless fun in store at Prairiewood water park

Fairfield City Council's exciting new water park at Prairiewood is about to get its next show stopping element.

The water park, to be located at Prairiewood Leisure Centre, will feature a large themed adventure aqua tower in addition to the Stingray surfing/skim boarding half pipe ride, announced earlier this year.

Council has four different themes to choose from and as a result we are asking the community to tell us what they think.

I have posted pictures of the themes on my Facebook page and I encourage everyone to take a look and 'Like' the theme they want to see at the water park. We will be collating results on 22 September so make sure you visit before then.

The themed adventure aqua tower is more than 12 metres high and features 6 water slides of varying designs, a giant tipping bucket, smaller tipping buckets, water cannons and more.

There are many more exciting elements yet to come to the water park, so stay tuned for future announcements.
