A feast for the senses – Moon Festival 2015

The streets of Cabramatta came alive for the annual Moon Festival celebration last weekend, providing plenty of fun with a full program of entertainment, activities and traditional foods and events.

The Moon Festival is without a doubt Council's largest community event, with 100, 000 people from all over Sydney coming to our City to celebrate with us. It is an exciting time to come together, to reflect, and to participate in this ancient South-East Asian festival.

With over 50 stalls and restaurants offering delicious mouth-watering foods, Fairfield City Council's 2015 Moon Festival allowed attendees to indulge in some of Sydney's most authentic cuisines and flavours, which we have become famous for throughout Sydney.

One of the hallmarks of this traditional festival is the making and sharing of moon cakes, round pastries traditionally filled with red bean or lotus seed.

Typical moon cakes can be a few inches in diameter, but this year's Festival-goers had the opportunity to witness the setting of an Australian record for the largest moon cake, breaking the current Australian 60 kilogram record.

This year festival-goers enjoyed gourmet food, market stalls, cooking demonstrations by My

Kitchen Rules contestants, traditional singing and dancing, martial arts displays the Children's Lantern Parade and much more.

The festival this year also included crowd favourite competitions such as the moon cake eating, noodle eating, prawn peeling and children's chopsticks competitions. Headline act Prinnie Stevens kept the crowds entertained, while the Minions were a huge hit for families.

I would like to thank the event organisers, volunteers and everyone involved behind the scenes for their hard work in pulling together this event for the whole community.

It was a great day for all and I am so proud to be able to be part of such a significant event for many of our residents and visitors to our City.
