Extra parking for Prairiewood

Increasing the number of parking places in our City has been one of my main priorities since I was elected Mayor.

Increasing the number of parking places in our City has been one of my main priorities since I was elected Mayor.

More than 600 extra car spaces have been constructed in our town centres, including Fairfield, Cabramatta, Canley Vale and Canley Heights, taking the total number of parking spaces in the Cabramatta and Fairfield CBDs alone to 1875.

At last week's Council meeting I proposed that Council staff investigate the feasibility of widening Prairie Vale

Road to allow for angle parking.

Prairiewood is one of our City's major town centres and is undergoing a major makeover. This suburb is being transformed with such projects as the expansion of Stockland Wetherill Park Shopping Centre and the soon-to-be-built water park.

It is becoming a major shopping precinct, transport hub and health district, with Fairfield Hospital, Wetherill Park Police Station and Prairiewood Youth and Community Centre all in close proximity.

This extra parking could easily be provided along the north-western side of Prairie Vale Road, between

Moonlight Road and Restwell Road, and along Christie Street.

Christmas festivities in Fairfield

Tomorrow (Thursday) I will switch on the lights adorning Council's Christmas tree in Epoch Plaza in Fairfield City Centre.

This popular annual family event starts at 6.30pm and marks the start of Christmas festivities in our City. There will be carol singing, a petting zoo, a visit by Santa Claus and a whole lot more.

Another event that draws lots of families is the children's Christmas Party at Canley Heights. Bring the kids along from 3pm until 6pm for a photo with Santa, carnival rides, carols and a whole lot of fun.

The Christmas season is a time of goodwill and family get-togethers. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas - and don't forget our Illuminate fireworks on New Year's Eve to see in the start of 2016 in Fairfield City.
