An exciting year ahead in Fairfield City

Welcome to my first column for 2016. I hope all residents had a fantastic holiday break with family and friends.

We are excited to launch into 2016 as a standalone Council and are pleased the State Government agreed with our residents – that we are a strong local government providing great services for our community. The Fit for the Future announcement just before Christmas was welcome news. We will continue to strive for the best outcomes for our residents and look for new ways to build and improve this great City.

Council's first New Year's celebration, Illuminate, was a huge success with about 3,000 people at Council's live site at Calmsley Hill Farm and thousands more attending one of the 10 clubs throughout the City that partnered with us. The evening was a fun-filled experience with entertainment and incredible fireworks lighting up the night sky across Fairfield City.

This year will be a busy one, with many great projects to be delivered.

One of the exciting major projects is the Prairiewood Water Park which will be completed in time for summer later this year. This great facility continues our commitment to make Fairfield a great place for families. The Water Park will feature three giant water slides, the Stingray surfing/skim boarding half pipe ride and the adventure aqua tower with six slides, a giant tipping bucket, water cannons and much more.

Another project to be completed this year is the Dutton Lane redevelopment, which will bring a range of benefits to Cabramatta and to Fairfield City as a whole. The three-storey redevelopment will provide an additional 275 car spaces, ground floor retail shops, commercial offices, a new lift and a new civic area for people to sit and enjoy the revitalised surrounds. Revenue generated from this development will be returned to the community.

I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Fairfield City for another year and completing these great projects.
