Main Roads Beautification Program

One of my priorities this year is making the City clean and attractive by investing in infrastructure and introducing new programs.

A few programs already in place for this are:

  • Suburb Banners
  • Beautification of large intersections
  • CCTV to catch people illegally dumping waste

At the Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 23 February, I proposed the introduction of the Main Roads Beautification Program.

This trial initiative will meet our community's desire for a clean and attractive City. It will be an addition to existing services to further improve our City's appearance. Our residents have expressed the desire to increase services and to take pride in our community.

This multi-skilled, proactive team will focus on cleaning up major Council roads and streets as they travel throughout the City, and act as a one stop shop for basic maintenance and cleaning services.

The work of this team will involve slashing overgrown verges, pruning trees, tidying up our roundabouts, weeding, cleaning up rubbish and increasing streetsweeping on major thoroughfares.

The team will also collect shopping trolleys abandoned on or near our main roads, and supermarkets will be charged a fee for their return.

This program needs major funding resources, as this is a significant priority for the community to have a more clean and attractive City.

It will go into the Draft Operational Plan 2016-17 and, if adopted by Council, residents can expect to see improvements in the City's streetscape from July when the works start.

Everyone can take pride in the City and help make it clean and attractive by not littering and placing their rubbish in the correct bins.

There is one response to “Main Roads Beautification Program”

  1. Britton Campbell Says:

I love seeing the community taking action to beautify the city. Sometimes streets can be all the difference in a city looking clean or not. I will definitely support if the decision is made to bring in the street sweepers to help bring the city to its best.
