Youth Week 2016

Youth Week is a great opportunity for all of us to recognise the achievements of the young people in our City and to provide them with the opportunities and encouragement to keep striving for the future.

This year, Fairfield City is hosting a huge range of activities for Youth Week which runs from Friday 8 April 2016 until Sunday 17 April 2016.

The highlight of the week is our Bring it On! Festival, on Sunday 17 April at Fairfield Showground from 10:30am-7:30pm. There is some incredible entertainment in store including an action packed FMX Freestyle Motocross show and Australia's best gymnasts putting on an acrobatic show of high flying trampoline routines.

The festival also showcases youth culture through activities such as the High School Showdown, Band Comp, tricking competitions and urban dance, including the well-known Dauntless Movement Crew.

A key to the success of Fairfield City's Youth Week is the  Bring it On! Volunteer Generations: Leadership and Development Program. This training program is about giving Fairfield youth the best chance to build skills they could use as a stepping stone to further opportunities.

This year about 150 youth volunteers aged 14–24 are involved in roles such as sound crew, photographers, videographers and event management. The skills gained as a volunteer can be very valuable in gaining hands-on experience for future employment.

I am committed to providing increased opportunities for our community, including more activities for youth. I encourage all of our youth to head along to Bring It On! this Sunday and enjoy the safe festival atmosphere.

There are many other events throughout Youth Week for young people including gaming and beauty workshops at the Wetherill Park Library and Soccer and Netball Clinics at our Fairfield Youth and Community Centre wrapping up with a DJ party tomorrow afternoon. Newleaf Park in Bonnyrigg will also host a Youth week event tomorrow with sports, bubble soccer, laser tag and more.

Visit the Youth Week NSW website for information on all the events held throughout our City. I encourage everyone to celebrate Youth Week with me and recognise the amazing achievements of the youth of Fairfield City.
