Extra car parking for Fairfield City Centre

Creating extra car parking throughout our City has been a priority during my time as Mayor.

Since I came to office, almost 800 extra car parking spaces have been created throughout our City at locations such as Canley Vale, Canley Heights, Cabramatta and Fairfield City Centre.

I'm happy to announce that at last week's Council meeting approval was given to provide 39 car parking spaces along The Crescent, in Fairfield City Centre. Council will build the 39 angle parking spaces on the eastern side of The Crescent, between Hamilton Road and Ware Street.

These parking spaces add to the 45 created in the new car park on Barbara Street.

Also good news for Fairfield City Centre shoppers is the approaching opening of a new lift in the Nelson Street car park. The lift, which is expected to be open in the next couple of weeks, will be big enough to allow for shopping trolleys. For the convenience of shoppers, trolley bays have been relocated on each of the car park's three levels near the lift.

There are a number of exciting projects under way in Fairfield City Centre that are all part of the Fairfield City Centre Revitalisation Program 2015-16. One of these is an upgrade of the footpath along The Crescent between Hamilton Road and Smart Street.

Work has started on this project, which involves renewing kerb and guttering as well as installing new pedestrian crossings.

New footpath paving will complement other new paving fronting the Railway Station and Bus Interchange.

The overall vision for Fairfield City Centre is to lay out a pathway of economic, social and environmental initiatives designed to realise the centre's potential and create a place where people want to live, work, visit and invest.

These improvements are important elements in achieving that vision.

New pavers are being laid on The Crescent, in Fairfield City Centre.
