Transforming Fairfield Showground

Fairfield City Council continues to invest in local services and infrastructure for our community.

In the past four years we have seen the development of much-needed projects, regional projects that are building a better place for families in a growing city.

The Fairfield Youth and Community Centre, Adventure Park, Aquatopia Water Park and roads like Wetherill Street and soon Smithfield Road are just some of these major projects.

Council is now investigating new projects that can benefit our community and connect with our region, for now and into the future.

Fairfield Showground is one of the jewels in our crown, located centrally to our city.

The large, open spaces and proximity to transport provide an opportunity to transform the Showground into a significant regional facility for sporting excellence and festivals, while still maintaining the regular markets that attract 600,000 people a year.

The proposal now being considered includes a sporting stadium, synthetic football pitches, festival arena, expanded community gardens, bike tracks and walking paths.

Council will continue to invest in local parks, roads and other facilities that are so important to our community, but we also need to invest in opportunities for the long term by building a vision and facilities that will keep growing our economy.

The Showground proposal offers an opportunity to open up the facility to our community for the first time in a generation, to invest in infrastructure that better connects with what our community needs, while developing a vision for our region that can be built and expanded into the future.

Council considers the Showground a vital asset and will soon sit down to discuss this vision and how we can further develop it.

Much has been achieved in the past four years. It's time to continue to build a vision and facilities that will ensure our City benefits from a growing South West Sydney and make our city one of the best places for families to live, work and play.
