'Tis the season of giving

The grand opening of Aquatopia Water Park last weekend was a major win for the people of Fairfield City as Council welcomed guests to our latest project that will bring families together.

Families excited to be the first to experience Prairiewood Leisure Centre's new facilities were treated to an opening day extravaganza that included live music and a free barbecue, as well as the chance to interact with magical mermaids, silly seagulls and burly life guards.

Council designed Aquatopia with South West Sydney families in mind; as an affordable space for people of all ages and ability to come together, get active and get healthy.

In the new year, Council will announce the opening of the park's final element, the Stingray surf ride, so keep an eye on Council's website and social media pages for news about this exciting element to the water park.

Council has begun distributing free 2017 calendars at shopping centres across our City. It's just another one of our efforts to keep the community informed of the exciting initiatives planned for the year ahead. Come and meet me and receive your own at Edensor Park Plaza (Thursday 15 December) and Market Place in Fairfield West (Friday 16 December).

Calendars are also available at our libraries and leisure centres across the City.

Extra recycling pick-up

Council has again recognised the extra recycling needs of residents at this busy time of year. With all the celebrating that is happening across our City, we will again provide free additional recycling collections to help you dispose of your extra bottles, cans, plastic containers, cardboard and paper.

Additional recycling collections will take place between Monday 26 December and Friday 6 January 2017.

Residents should leave their recycling bin out on the night before their normal bin day.

Your fortnightly recycling service will continue as normal from Monday 9 January 2016.

Council wishes you a safe and happy holiday season.
