Arthur Street Carpark, Cabramatta Town Centre
For the first time, Cabramatta will proudly host the inaugural National Lion Dance Competition in Australia - an exciting event presented by Fairfield City Council in collaboration with the Australian Dragon and Lion Dance Federation.
Hughes Street Carpark will be transformed into a thrilling arena, welcoming 19 elite lion dance teams from across the country who will compete across two categories - Traditional and High Poles.
This vibrant two-day competition kicks off on Saturday 27 September, with the nation’s top lion dance champions crowned on Sunday 28 September.
In a spectacular double celebration, the National Lion Dance Competition will take place alongside the beloved Cabramatta Moon Festival on Sunday 28 September - promising a cultural weekend unlike anything Western Sydney, or greater Sydney, has ever seen.
Highlights include:
- 19 teams from across Australia (NSW, VIC, QLD, WA) are competing in traditional and high pole lion dance categories
- Winners are crowned in both categories with a coveted national title and prizes
- International guest judges from federations in Singapore and Malaysia
- Family-friendly atmosphere with free entry for all ages.
The competition is set to ignite local interest in lion dance and provide an international platform for emerging talent. It also marks a significant step in Fairfield City Council’s commitment to fostering multicultural engagement and supporting the arts.
