Fairfield City is a place rich in stories, from the times of First Nations people to present day new arrivals.

Filming in Fairfield City’s town centres, parks and open spaces, outdoor areas such as footpaths, roads and parks may require Council approval.

Planning for filming in Fairfield City

Film production companies or organisations considering filming on public land within Fairfield City should allocate the following time before filming takes place for the following approvals:

  • Standard filming – 15 days
  • Filming requiring road closure approval - 3 months.

Identify the location and required Council owned facilities that you may wish to use so that early advice about availability can be provided to you.

Approval Process

Any business or organisation considering filming on public land within the Fairfield Local Government area must:

  1. Review State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Development Codes) 2008 - Section 4 - Filming. Under this Policy your Filming Application may require Development Approvals.
  2. Review the Local Government Filing Guidelines Protocol and RTA Filming Projects – Guidelines for parking and road closures – refer to supporting documents
  3. Complete the Filming Application Form including location details, number of personnel, dates and times of productions, Traffic Management Plan and Car Parking Plan, and review of a list of other approvals that may be required from other statutory authorities – see below for link to form.
  4. Provide Public Liability Insurance Cover – Copy of Certificate of Currency ($10 million cover to indemnify Council). If access is proposed over Crown Land the Minister for the Department of Land and Water Conservation will also have to be indemnified.
  5. Complete the Temporary Access over Community Land Form - refer to 'Supporting Information and Forms'.

Council will issue a Filming Permit once all conditions and payments have been met that must be carried at all times when production is underway.
