Kids & Young People

It is recommended that children and young people stay active every day in ways that are fun, age‑appropriate and easy to fit into daily life.

Children aged 1 to 2 years should have at least three hours of active play each day, spread across the day. This can include a mix of energetic indoor and outdoor activities that encourage movement and exploration.

Children aged 3 to 5 years should also be physically active for at least three hours a day. This should include at least one hour of more energetic play, such as running, jumping or active games.

Children and young people aged 5 to 17 years are encouraged to be active for at least one hour each day through moderate to vigorous activities, such as walking, bike riding, sport or active play. More energetic activities should be included at least three times a week, along with plenty of lighter activities throughout the day.
