Location & Transport

Fairfield City is within easy reach of many major markets in the Sydney metropolitan area and has good access to the northern, southern and eastern parts of NSW via major roads.

The area contains a number of important transport routes including railway and a number of major roads.

By Rail

Fairfield is connected by rail to the Sydney Central Business District, Parramatta and major retail centres further to the South West. The Cumberland (T5) rail line service runs between Campbelltown and Blacktown and passes through Fairfield. The T2 service (Airport, Inner West and South Line) also runs from Campbelltown, passing through Fairfield to the City via Granville.

The Southern Sydney Freight Line (SSFL) provides a dedicated freight line for a distance of 36km between Sefton and Macarthur and passes through Fairfield. The SSFL provides a third track in the rail corridor specifically for freight services, allowing passenger and freight services to operate independently. The line is managed by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC), while the adjacent passenger lines are managed by Sydney Trains.

By Bus

Fairfield City Centre is well serviced by buses. There is a major bus interchange at Fairfield Station. Visit Transport NSW for more information about routes and timetables.

Buses from Liverpool and Parramatta also link The Smithfield-Wetherill Park Industrial Estate via the Liverpool-Parramatta T-way.

By Road Connections

  • The Hume Highway - provides a key link to Southern NSW and Melbourne. It is a major interstate road carrying freight.
  • The M5 Motorway - provides close access to Sydney’s Kingsford Smith International Airport and access to Australia’s Capital City, Canberra.
  • The Westlink M7 Motorway - connects industrial and manufacturing nodes in Sydney’s west. It links the M5 with the M2, providing a key national highway through Sydney. It runs along the western boundary of the urban area of Fairfield City with interchanges planned to serve this City.
