2021 is set to be one of the most important years in our City’s proud history, with our biggest ever rollout of exciting new projects for local families.

The first three months of the year will see us deliver four of our most anticipated projects. The People’s Globe, featuring Australia’s largest Kugel Ball – will open at the Smithfield Road entrance to Fairfield Showground. It is a tribute to the people of Fairfield City, to all the migrants who have come here since John Williams and his wife moved to Fairfield in 1792 as the area’s first white settlers.

Our City’s first all-abilities playground – Deerbush Park – will open right next door. The playground will include accessible playground equipment, ropes and net course, splash play area, flying fox, riding track, picnic tables and bench seating, outdoor gym equipment, accessible bathrooms and more.

The new Fairfield Library at Hamilton Road will also open to the public. It will be nearly twice the size as the old library at Kenyon Street, with the ability to double its size when the need arises. The old library will be converted into a business hub, to support start-up businesses in our City with the space and facilities they need to succeed.

In Cabramatta, we will open our new 220-space multistorey car park next to Dutton Plaza, supporting residents, businesses and shoppers in this vibrant and growing town centre. This will increase car parking capacity in the Dutton Lane precinct to almost 1,000, catering for more than 1.5 million visitations every year.

Just in time for summer, we will open our new wave pool at Aquatopia. The 55-metre pool will feature breaking, surfable waves and will bring the beach to the backyard of Fairfield City residents. It will include new cabanas, palm trees, shaded beach chairs, change rooms and a covered stage area for concerts and events.

At Fairfield Showground, we are building a new 1000-seat grandstand with change rooms, community spaces, ticket booth and more – providing the perfect viewing place for sports events and festivals. Around the Showground, we will open shared walking paths suitable for walkers, bicycles and wheelchairs. We will also build our City’s largest off-leash dog park.

We will continue our plan to upgrade Cabravale Leisure Centre. It will be a one-stop shop for seniors, people with disabilities and people recovering from health conditions in our community, while still offering all the traditional services and programs that our community values.

We will do all this while continuing to invest strongly in improving local parks and roads, and providing the services you rely on, while maintaining a responsible financial position and keeping rates low. I look forward to an exciting year ahead.
