Building great recreation spaces

Last week we started work on converting one of the old tennis courts at Emerson Park in Wetherill Park into a second futsal court. It’s one of the many projects we are working on to give locals more options to play and stay fit and healthy together.

The existing court has been very popular with local teams and we are upgrading both surfaces to a FIFA standard pitch. The courts bring added diversity to our sporting facilities.

Over the next five months we are investing millions of dollars to improve open spaces for the community as part of our $20.2 million open spaces budget this financial year.

Council is committed to building some of the best parks in Sydney, like Koonoona Park, Fairfield Adventure Park, Bonnyrigg Park and the new all-abilities park we are building at Fairfield Showground. We will have some of the best parks in Sydney.

We also understand the importance of smaller parks, reserves and sporting fields dotted across our City, that are within easy walking distance from your neighbourhoods, and we will be completing works in parks across the City in the coming financial year.

Playgrounds receiving improvements this year include: Coolatai Park in Bossley Park; Bareena Park in Canley Vale; Clarrie Atkins and Hartley Oval in Canley Vale; Middlehope and Thorley parks in Smithfield; Narromine Park in Bonnyrigg Heights; Yennora Park and Knight Park in Yennora; Peter Dawson Park in Mt Pritchard; and the basketball court at Parkes Reserve in Canley Vale.

More safe and clean Exeloo toilets will be installed at Bunker Park in Bonnyrigg, and Lansvale Park in Carramar and walking and cycling tracks are being built at Fairfield Showground.

Our immensely popular outdoor fitness equipment network will be expanded with new equipment at Prospect Park in Smithfield, Deerbush Park at Fairfield Showground and Allambie Park in Bossley Park and we are also renewing the Floyd Bay boat ramp in Lansvale.

Wherever you live, whether you’re young, old, already fit or just getting into exercise, we are committed to making sure there are plenty of options for you to get out and be healthy and active with your family, friends and neighbours.
