It’s so important that as the City slowly starts to open up after lockdown, that we all continue to feel a sense of belonging to our City and pride in where we live. We have been through so much as a City and we should be so proud to call Fairfield our home. As we all start moving around more as the city opens up, you will notice that Council has been working hard during the lockdown period, continuing to improve our City.

We have been beautifying our roadsides and roundabouts, with recent landscaping works at major City and gateway locations at Bossley Park, Cabramatta, Smithfield, Fairfield Heights and Greenfield Park. The plants give a splash of vibrant colour as you travel through our City.

Council will continue these landscaping works across different parts of our city’s 700-kilometre road network as well as slashing overgrown verges, pruning trees, weeding, cleaning up rubbish and street sweeping our major thoroughfares.

We have been upgrading the Canley Heights Town Centre. The footpath is getting a facelift with new paving treatments, new smart street lighting, as well as CCTV and 5G Wi-Fi. We’ve also started converting more laneways into overflow car parking spaces to help shoppers during peak periods.

As well as our town centres, Council will spend an additional $7.9 million on footpaths and kerb and guttering across the City this year. Recently we installed a bridge and path at Horsley Park, so that pedestrians wanting to access the shopping centre won’t have to cross the road. Council will soon complete a new 1km long walking and cycling path at Rosford Reserve in Smithfield. And over the coming year we will also start lighting up our popular suburb banners across the City.

While we are investing in big projects such as the 55-metre wave pool at Aquatopia, the iconic Dutton Plaza Car Park, Fairfield City business hub and Deerbush Park, we continue to maintain and improve the assets that the community uses every day.

I’m proud of the fact that no matter where you live in our wonderful City there are many works being undertaken by Council to benefit residents and their families.
