Fairfield City Lost and Found Pets now on Facebook

Published on 06 September 2022

We all know how much families love their pets as they play an important part in our family and community life. The thought of losing our pets is heartbreaking and stressful. That’s why Council has started a new Facebook page ‘Fairfield City Lost and Found Pets’.

The new Facebook page will help us identify lost pets and ensure they are safely reunited with their owners. It will also help find new homes for unclaimed or rescued animals, promote Council’s pet programs and for general information on responsible pet ownership.

It is important to maintain responsible pet ownership by registering your pet and keeping your records up to date. This will help to reunite you with your lost pet quickly. Registration can be done online at petregistry.nsw.gov.au, over the phone or in person. You should also consider desexing your dog or cat to avoid unwanted litters, make sure your dog is on a controlled lead whenever in public, clean up after your dog when in public and ensure your dog remains fit and healthy with regular exercise.

Council offers free microchipping and discounted desexing days throughout the year to local residents. Microchipping your pet dog or cat is a legal requirement under the Companion Animals Act and it also ensures any lost or missing pets can be easily identified with their owners when a vet, animal shelter or Council scans the chip.

We have five, fully-fenced off-leash dog parks in our City to give everyone’s best friend a space to play and be healthy. Our newest dog park is located at Fairfield Showground and has well-lit spaces for big and small dogs to play with their owners and other dogs safely at a time that suits them. Other locations are Canley Vale, Wakeley, Bonnyrigg Heights and Mt Pritchard. We have plans to build more so that every family in the City has an off-leash park within short driving or walking distance.

If you see an unaccompanied animal, you can help them find their way home by checking for an identification tag, taking them to a local vet or by contacting Council to have them collected.

To find out more about how to register your pet, Council-run pet programs, responsible pet ownership, or if you’re looking to adopt a new four-legged family member, visit www.fairfiedcity.nsw.gov.au/Services-Animals-and-Pets.

When you’re out and about with your dog, please remember to be a responsible owner and I encourage you to use our free microchipping and discounted de-sexing days and to enjoy the fantastic off-leash dog parks here in our City.
