Freedoms in sight

We are getting ready to re-open Fairfield to the community, with the NSW Government earlier this week revealing the roadmap to reopening NSW. Council is committed to opening our facilities as soon as we can, with COVID safety plans in place to protect the health and safety of residents and visitors.

The roadmap released by the NSW Government outlines the freedoms for fully vaccinated people that will start to come into effect on 11 October – once the state reaches 70 per cent double dose coverage – such as; the lifting of lockdown, allowing visitors in homes, and being able to enter hospitality venues, hairdressers and gyms.

Once 80 per cent of the population is vaccinated — which is expected to happen by the end of October — those who have had two doses will be able to enjoy regional travel and community sport again.

Fairfield City is leading the way in vaccinations, with many of our suburbs having now reached 80-90 per cent first dose. As we are nearing the lifting of lockdowns, Council is taking a staggered approach to reopening the City for vaccinated residents.

The outdoor pool at Prairiewood Leisure Centre will reopen on Tuesday 5 October, and libraries and gyms will be reopening on Monday 18 October. Reopenings will be subject to conditions, stay tuned for more information.

As the weather warms up, there’s never been a better time to explore our award winning playgrounds and parks, such as Fairfield Adventure Park and our acclaimed all-abilities Deerbush Park. This summer is guaranteed to be our coolest yet, as we turn on the Deerbush Park splash pad for the first time. The water play space is a first for our City, featuring 13 squirters and ground-level bubblers, and together with Aquatopia Water Park will be open as soon as public health orders allow.

We are getting very close to that 70% double dose target, keep doing the right thing Fairfield, get vaccinated, and together we will come out of this stronger.
