In coming weeks we will be running a number of community stories highlighting the regions in our Local Government Area and shining a spotlight on the great works in progress to continually improve our City.

As a Council, we look at the City as a whole and these community stories will detail some of the exciting projects in the pipeline across the LGA. These works include some fantastic investments and infrastructure to meet the needs of our residents now and into the future.

In this edition, we will be looking at the Parks Ward, which encompasses the western section of our LGA. It is the largest ward by land size and encompasses 12 suburbs, from Bonnyrigg, Prairiewood and Smithfield, through to Horsley Park and Cecil Park.

The early settlers through to the waves of migrants who now call these suburbs home have all contributed to the rich cultural history of this part of our LGA. From the various cultural centres and places of worship in Bonnyrigg to the wide open spaces of the Western Sydney Parklands and surrounding suburbs, the Parks Ward has a unique identity in our City.

There are a number of key sites in the area such as Lizard Log that are an asset not only to the residents of these suburbs, but also are a leisure destination for many families in Western Sydney.

Council is continuing to make investments and improvements throughout the suburbs of the Parks Ward such as the exciting upgrades to the Bonnyrigg Town Centre Park, improvements to Smithfield Town Centre's footpaths and upgrades to Emerson Street Reserve and Stockdale Reserve that include walking paths and fitness equipment.

Future works will bring even more improvements for the families and residents of the City. These future works will consist of more than $1 million of upgrades to Wilson Road Reserve, including a playground and exercise equipment, circuit walking paths, parking, landscaping and a multipurpose sports court.

Rosford Reserve in Smithfield will be gain floodlighting to the sportsfields so sporting teams will be able to train and play in safety throughout the darker winter months.

These investments are being made across many facilities, not only our parks and open spaces. Bonnyrigg, Bonnyrigg Heights and Wetherill Park Childcare Centres will also receive upgrades to their facilities.

There are many more works occurring in the coming months throughout the suburbs of Parks Ward, too many to mention here.

I look forward to seeing these investments unveiled over the coming year for the benefit of all residents of Fairfield City.
