Alcohol Free Zones

Canley Vale Road in Canley Vale by night.

Town Centres are enjoyable when public spaces and streets are safe and enjoyable for residents and visitors.

Alcohol Free Zones prohibit alcohol consumption in public places to reduce anti-social behaviour and crime. They apply to road related public areas such as public roads, footpaths or car parks. The legislation covering these zones is Sections 642-648 of the Local Government Act 1993.

Alcohol Free Zones are used as a measure by Councils where there is a demonstrable community need or where there is a short term need. Every three years they are reviewed to see if there is still a need.

Alcohol Free Zones apply in the Cabramatta Town Centre and Fairfield City Centre, as well as other centres including Lansvale. They are established after a request is received from a local community representative, Police or council.
