Council increases food inspections

Residents and visitors to Fairfield City can enjoy the amazing food on offer in our City, and be confident of its safety with Council significantly increasing food premises inspections across the City.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said Council works with local businesses to maintain a healthy and clean environment. The Council has increased visits by 27 per cent in the past six months compared to the corresponding period last year.

"We have visited more than 1,000 food premises in the past six months alone," Mayor Carbone said.

"We want residents and visitors to get out and about and enjoy our wonderful City and part of that includes enjoying the City’s amazing food. The huge variety of food on offer is one of the major drawcards to our City.

"But we also need to make sure the food is served in a clean and safe environment.

"Council plays an active role to protect the health of our community and visitors by helping to ensure the more than 1000 local food businesses follow high standards.

Council inspectors regularly advise and inspect food businesses including restaurants, cafes, takeaways, bakeries, child care centres, school canteens, mobile food vans and temporary food stalls. Council works with businesses to ensure their premises are clean and safe.

Retail food businesses are inspected by Council at least once or twice a year. Where necessary, Council will issue warnings, fines or notices for improvements to be made.
