COVID-19 drive-through testing is being held at Fairfield Showground

Fairfield City Council has been working with NSW Health to open a FREE drive-through COVID-19 testing clinic at Fairfield Showground.

The clinic will run from Tuesday 26 May to Saturday 30 May, and Tuesday 2 June to Saturday 6 June, 9.30am to 4pm.

Fairfield Showground is located at the corner of Smithfield and Richards roads, Prairiewood.

Drivers are instructed to pull up at the registration point inside the Showground car park and present their licence and Medicare card. They will be tested without having to leave their car. Anyone in the vehicle can be tested, including children.

NSW Health is advising anyone with a fever, cough, sore/scratchy throat or shortness of breath to be tested. No referrals or appointments are required.

NSW Health is aiming for an average of 8,000 tests per day before they can be certain the virus is under control.

This clinic follows on from the pop-up testing clinic at Fairfield earlier this month.

Mayor Carbone encouraged residents who have even mild symptoms to get themselves tested.

“There is only one way to be sure the virus is not among us, and that is for people with even the mildest symptoms to be tested.

“I am proud of how our community has responded to the challenge of social distancing and added hygiene, with our suburbs so far avoiding the worst of COVID-19. But we cannot become complacent,” Mayor Carbone said.

“COVID-19 can present with little or no symptoms, or it can have potentially deadly symptoms. That is why I am encouraging anyone who has even mild symptoms to come and be tested. Symptoms include a sore or scratchy throat, fever, cough or shortness of breath.

“I would like to thank NSW Health for bringing this drive-through COVID-19 testing to our City.”

NSW Health will have bilingual community educators on hand to help answer any questions and provide advice in English, Arabic and Vietnamese.

Residents can also get tested for FREE at Fairfield Hospital from 10am to 5.30pm weekdays and 10am to 3pm on weekends and public holidays. No appointment is necessary.

FREE testing is also being offered by NSW Health at Fairfield GP Respiratory Clinic, 65 Ware Street, Fairfield, weekdays 9am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm. Call 9724 7512 for an appointment.
