Fairfield City Markets offers a broad selection of new goods and fresh produce.

Fairfield Showground’s much-loved Fairfield City Markets will reopen from this Saturday, 20 June, 9am-4pm following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions by the NSW Government.

The markets are regarded as one of the biggest and best run markets in south west Sydney. Up to 500 stallholders sell clothes, toys, food, sporting gear, groceries, household items, jewellery and more at the markets. Only brand new items are sold, and as many as 8,000 shoppers attend each Saturday.

Council has developed a COVID-safe plan to ensure the health and safety of stallholders and shoppers.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said he was excited that Council was now able to reopen the popular markets.

“These markets have been an important part of our City since 1978. Not only do they provide a wide range of affordable and quality goods for our residents, they are a source of income for sellers, many who are local residents themselves,” Mayor Carbone said.

“We’ve only been able to reopen these markets thanks to the hard work of all residents in following important hygiene and social distancing practices over the past three months.

“It is important that we don’t become complacent though. Please continue to observe good hygiene and social distancing, especially when visiting crowded public places such as the markets, to make sure everyone stays safe and healthy.

“I thank everyone for their patience while the markets were closed due to the pandemic. The health and wellbeing of our residents has always been our top priority. I look forward to making further announcements soon about the reopening of other Council services.”

Council will continue to update the community on changes to its services as and when changes occur on social media and its website. For a full list of changes, visit www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/coronavirus.
