Fairfield Markets temporarily closed this weekend

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone tonight announced that the Fairfield Markets will not open tomorrow.

The decision to temporarily close the Fairfield Markets at Fairfield Showground this weekend has been done as a precaution.

The closure is effective immediately and is being made to ensure the safety of our community, following confirmation from NSW Health of positive COVID-19 cases at Stockland Wetherill Park. Market vendors are being informed of the decision.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said while there are no positive cases associated with the Markets, the closure will provide time to assess the level of community transmission from the Stockland cases. It’s important we place the health and wellbeing of our community first.

“I know the Fairfield Markets are a popular and important part of the lives of many Fairfield City residents, but the risk is simply too great to let them continue at this time,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Please continue to observe important social distancing and hygiene rules at all times, and if you experience any symptoms such as fever, cough, sore/scratchy throat or shortness of breath - even if they are minor - please get tested and stay home.”

Residents can get tested for FREE at Fairfield Hospital from 8am to 6pm, seven days a week.

“I thank everyone for their patience and cooperation in this challenging time. Together we will get through this.”
