Council donates to bushfire victims

With the recent bushfire emergency, there are plenty of people in NSW and Queensland doing it really tough.

Hundreds of homes have been burned down, families displaced, livelihoods destroyed and in a number of tragic cases, lives have been lost. The bushfire emergency is not over yet and with a hot, dry summer forecast, it is likely there will be more fires in the coming months.

That is why I am inviting everyone who joins us at Fairfield Showground for Illuminate this New Year’s Eve to take part in a gold coin collection on the night.

Council will match the donations dollar for dollar, with all money given to the Salvation Army’s Disaster Appeal – which is providing food, shelter and essentials to evacuees and first responders in fire-affected areas – and the RSPCA’s Bushfire Appeal, which is assisting wildlife, pets and livestock.

While Fairfield City has not been directly impacted by these fires, we have a long history of reaching out to those in need in such times and offering support where we can.

I encourage everyone coming to Illuminate to bring a gold coin to donate. Together we can make a real difference to families and wildlife impacted by these recent bushfires.

Illuminate is Fairfield City’s popular family New Year’s Eve celebration. It will be held on 31 December from 5-10pm, with entertainment for everyone. More than 4,000 tickets have already been sold.

There will also be a superhero theme, so come dressed as your favourite hero! There will be prizes for the best dressed. Tickets are on sale now at www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/illuminate for just $3. Book now to avoid disappointment.
