Creek rehabilitation works

I am sure many people have noticed the work going on in Orphan School Creek, along Avoca Road in Canley Heights.

The waterway is undergoing a $1.55 million rehabilitation between Avoca Road and the Cumberland Highway in Canley Heights/Fairfield West.

More than 800m of the creek is being rejuvenated and the work has been divided into eight sites, with work on four of these already begun.

The most noticeable change is the work connecting to the Avoca Road bridge, featuring large sandstone blocks lining the creek banks, which will help protect the banks from erosion.

When completed the creek rehabilitation will result in improved water quality, an increase in habitat diversity and improved amenity for residents.

The works are expected to be completed at the end of the year, weather permitting.

Reconciliation Week

Today is the last day of National Reconciliation Week, which is celebrated across Australia between 27 May and 3 June.

The dates commemorate two significant milestones—the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.

The week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can join the national reconciliation effort.
