Last weekend we invited people of all ages, abilities and cultures to come together to celebrate the official opening of the Deerbush Park all-abilities playground at Fairfield Showground.

Deerbush Park has been designed so that everybody can be involved in play, no matter what their ability.

The park is a first of its kind for Fairfield City; and includes accessible play equipment and facilities for wheelchair users and their carers, and a water play space operating in warmer months. Adults can also enjoy the new outdoor gym equipment; and can walk, cycle or roll along the new path network which links all the new facilities at the Showground together.

Council planted more than 22,000 native, locally-sourced plants including 40 large trees and 1,000 large shrubs, to add to the ample shade provided by the canopy of mature trees already in the area.

The $6.4 million playground was jointly funded by Fairfield City Council, and the Federal and State governments through the Western Parkland City Liveability Program and NSW Government’s Everyone Can Play program. This is the latest attraction of the Fairfield Showground redevelopment masterplan to be unveiled to the public.

The transformation of Fairfield Showground will see this precinct become the beacon of our City. It joins Council’s incredible line-up of local parks, and will rank among the likes of Fairfield Adventure Park and Obstacle Course, Aquatopia, Lizard Log, Bonnyrigg Park and Koonoona Park.

Council is committed to providing facilities that foster an active, healthy and connected community. Everyone can now share in the wonderful new facilities of Fairfield Showground – adults, children, and even dogs can now get active in the abundance of greenspace.

Council is also in planning stages for more parks to be located in accessible locations across the City. We want everyone to have easy access to great parks so we all can be active and healthy.
