Extend The Horsley Drive upgrade
Published on 05 June 2025
Every day, thousands of commuters rely on The Horsley Drive to get to work, school, and essential services. It is one of the most heavily used roads in our City – a vital artery that connects communities and supports local commerce to the rest of Sydney, Australia and, when the new airport opens, the world. And it desperately needs an upgrade.
Recently, the State Government announced that some long-awaited upgrades to The Horsley Drive will begin. This is a positive first step – but the work will only cover a 600-metre stretch near the M7, at the western end. While we welcome any progress, this partial upgrade falls short of what our City truly needs.
One critical area that’s been left out is the Cowpasture Road roundabout — the main gateway between our thriving Smithfield/Wetherill Park industrial area and the M7. This roundabout has been flagged for improvements for years. In fact, there was a clear commitment from past governments to upgrade it following extensive community consultation.
Now, with the Western Sydney International Airport nearing completion and new factories continuing to open in our City, the need for a significant upgrade to this intersection has never been more important. It’s about easing congestion and supporting local jobs and our economy.
Links to the documents for the roundabout to be upgraded have now been removed from Transport for NSW’s website but we have kept a record of its commitment, and will write to the Premier and the Minister for Transport urging them to reinstate the plans.
Roads are not just lines on a map — they’re lifelines for our economy, our families and our future. I will always advocate for infrastructure that our community needs and deserves.
