Great cultural celebration in Bibbys Place, Bonnyrigg
Published on 17 May 2017
Thank you to everyone who came along to Bibby's Place in Bonnyrigg on Saturday for our first Lunch@Bibbys celebration.
The day provided plenty of fun and entertainment with a full program of colourful cultural performances by Vietnamese, Laos, Turkish and Christian groups, free activities, multicultural food stalls and tours of various places of worship.
Over 500 people attended the community event to celebrate the many cultures that make up our spectacular community, as well as learn about other customs and ways of life. It was great to see so many people and businesses come together and share the rich and diverse cultures in the Bonnyrigg community. The day really did showcase ‘All the World in One Place.'
Council also launched the ‘The Spirit of Bonnyrigg Walk' pamphlet at the event, a map of Bonnyrigg that takes you through some of the key places of interest around the town centre.
The pamphlet shows visitors the many places of worship in Bibby's Place, as well as all the features of the Bonnyrigg Town Centre Park that includes the Bush Tucker path, Elders Garden and children's playground.
I encourage everyone to collect a pamphlet from Council and visit these wonderful places in our community. The ‘Spirit of Bonnyrigg Walk' pamphlet is available from Council's, Administration Centre and Open Libraries, as well as on Council's website and at Newleaf in Bonnyrigg.
I would like to thank the event organisers, sponsors, St George Community Housing volunteers and the various places of worship for all the hard work they put into this event. Without their support it would not have been possible.
I was proud to be a part of such a wonderful event, recognising our community's passion for its diversity, coming together and celebrating our cultural differences in harmony.
