Council is planning to build our biggest off-leash dog park at Fairfield Showground in the heart of our City to give everyone’s best friend more spaces to play and be healthy.

We know that it’s not just our residents who love open spaces to play in. As backyards get smaller, our four-legged friends also need space to exercise. That’s why we are committed to expanding the number of off-leash dog parks in our City.

At Fairfield Showground, we are planning to build multiple fenced and lit areas for local dogs and their owners to play in at a time that is convenient for them. These spaces will be different sizes, allowing different size dogs to play in different areas. We are also investigating including an obstacle course for more adventurous pups.

We chose Fairfield Showground as it is in a central location and already has amenities such as parking available. Fairfield Showground is being built with something for everyone to enjoy. That includes dog owners.

Demand for more dedicated spaces for our City’s dogs is strong. There are currently more than 43,600 dogs in our City and we want them to have every opportunity to be fit and healthy while staying safe. Taking your dog for a walk is a great way to stay fit and healthy, and look after your mental health, especially during COVID-19.

Council has four off-leash dog parks in our City - Wilson Park at Bonnyrigg, King Park at Wakeley, Prout Park in Mt Pritchard, and Railway Parade in Canley Vale. We have plans to build even more so that every family in the City has an off-leash park within short driving or walking distance.

When you’re out and about with your dog, please be a responsible owner and clean up after them as you go and keep them under your control at all times. Council also offers microchipping days during the year and we will be announcing our next one very soon. Stay tuned on Facebook for the announcement.
