There is no doubt that following the significant upgrade of sporting facilities at Fairfield Showground and other locations across the City, our community expects the best sporting fields.

That’s why Council has begun planning to upgrade the popular Endeavour Sports Park in Fairfield West to make it a high level grass roots sports precinct.

The upgrade will mean there is something for everyone with a wider range of sporting activities able to take place as well as ensuring existing users also benefit from improved facilities.

Sport, both recreational and competitive, is important not just for health, but for social engagement and mental wellbeing. It brings people and families together and keeps us healthy and active.

Council will develop a masterplan and consult with the community on what should be included in the redevelopment. I encourage you to have your say.

Following community consultation, the redevelopment could include items such as:

  • new synthetic football pitches that also support junior AFL and cricket
  • increased lighting for night matches and netball training
  • an upgraded southern amenities building
  • resurfaced netball courts
  • multi-purpose courts (netball/basketball)
  • re-purposing of the club house to provide a sports community hub
  • remote community access for four tennis courts.

As your Mayor, I am proud of the work we have done so far to help families stay active and healthy with new playgrounds such as Koonoona Park and Deerbush Park, installation of outdoor fitness equipment and new circuit walking paths across the City and the grass and artificial turf sportsfields at Fairfield Showground.

In the next year there will also be upgrades to Carrawood Park in Villawood, Bareena Park in Canley Vale and Fairfield Heights Park, more outdoor fitness equipment and paths and construction of a 55-metre wave pool at Aquatopia.

I am committed to getting on with the job of delivering the best services and facilities for our community.
