Fairfield Showground was always envisaged to be a place for the whole community to enjoy – for elite and grassroots sports teams, for families to come together to kick a ball around and for visitors from across Sydney to come and be part of the many festivals and concerts taking place there.

Just last weekend I was pleased to open the $11 million Fairfield Showground Pavilion, with Minister for Western Sydney and Tourism and Sport, Stuart Ayres. This is the most recent addition to the $28 million Showground redevelopment.

Located beside the Parklands Grandstand, the Pavilion overlooks the elite turf playing field with features including a 1,000 seat grandstand, five private viewing boxes ranging from 20-28 seating capacity on level 2, the Alan Young Room for spectators and private events on level 1, kitchen and canteen facilities, ticket booth and change rooms.

I was also pleased to unveil the Alan Young Room – named in honour of our long serving and well respected City Manager Alan Young PSM, who announced his retirement earlier this year following almost 23 years at the helm of Fairfield City Council. Alan was presented with the key to the City at the February council meeting, and that together with the Alan Young Room unveiling is a fitting tribute for his years of service to the City.

The new Pavilion will provide a real experience for visitors, with quality inclusions that cater for spectators, sportspeople, and performers. Council is committed to creating infrastructure across the City to enable people to enjoy the benefits of sport and active recreation, as well as community, cultural and entertainment events.

Thank you to the NSW Government for their $7 million investment in the Pavilion – a key driver in Council’s ability to fund the project, and for supporting our vision for the Showground and the City.

We want everyone to have access to the best facilities available, and I look forward to announcing details on stage two of the Showground redevelopment masterplan.
