St Johns Park makeover done
Published on 21 February 2018
I'm pleased to announce that residents in and around St Johns Park now have more opportunities to get out and about and be healthy.
Council invests about $15 million a year in the community's parks, reserves, play equipment and sports fields.
Council has recently spent more than $500,000 to turn St Johns Park recreational area into a mini sporting precinct.
The finishing touches to the makeover of the sporting fields were completed this month with a new roof, stainless steel cupboards, new toilets and doors and windows installed in the amenity building. The building is looking fantastic for local sporting clubs to use and enjoy.
Also installed as part of the makeover were a 750-metre circuit walking and cycling path, a shelter for shade and use as a picnic area and new outdoor fitness equipment.
The outdoor fitness equipment has already proved popular. When I visit the park I see people of all ages using the equipment. The existing four tennis courts were also upgraded and there is also a soccer/cricket field.
Whether as part of organised team sport, individual training and exercise, walking and jogging, or for a game of tennis, everyone can come to the one spot at St Johns Park.
With a variety of team and individual pursuits now catered for, there are facilities for all ages to enjoy and a place where families and friends can gather.
It's a great place to get out and about and be active and healthy. With backyards getting smaller, it's more important than ever for Council to provide a variety of recreational areas and opportunities for residents.
The St Johns Park upgrades are another example of Council's commitment to providing high quality community facilities.
