Lion Dancing and Firecrackers during Lunar New Year

Cabramatta-Lunar-New-Year-2023-358.jpg

Lions and string firecrackers re-open the shops and restaurants to banish evil from the old and bring in good luck and fortune for the New Year.

You will see businesses decorated in red with lanterns, ornaments, and flowers such as marigolds.

Lion dancing and string fireworks are held from Saturday 10 February, the start of Lunar New Year.

Businesses wishing to arrange lion dancing and string fireworks will need approval from Council.

String fireworks in Dutton Plaza are restricted to the weekends of Saturday 10 & Sunday 11, and Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 February 2024.

The restrictions are in place to help with the control of fire systems which are activated by smoke.

Lion dancing is welcome throughout the Lunar New Year period.
