Filming
Our vibrant town centres are exciting backdrops for images and stories capturing the essence of rich and diverse life experiences within our communities.
Filming involving film, videotape, or other electronic means for exhibition or broadcast on cinema, television, or the Internet is welcome in Fairfield City.
The Local Government Filming Protocol (Protocol) is issued under section 119D of the Local Government Act 1993 (LG Act).
The Protocol recognises that location filming requires a balance between the interests of the local community – both residents and businesses – and the screen industry’s requirements.
The Protocol refers filmmakers, councils, and the general public to codes of conduct for filmmakers, including matters such as safety.
A ‘no impact’ category accommodates filming that effectively has no ‘out of the ordinary’ impact on residents and/or commercial activity.
Examples of no-impact filming activities include real estate filming, reality television, news crew filming, and background photography for visual effects ‘plate shots’.
Filmmakers must be aware that should a filming activity require any form of approval from Council, it may require assessment as at least a low impact. It will be subject to an application and assessment.
You can still do without approval:
- Still photography
- Video recording of a wedding ceremony or other private celebration, and
- Recording a television program (current affairs or daily news)
