One Pot at a Time: Fairfield Food Stories

One Pot at a Time is a collection of food stories sharing young people’s perspectives of culture and heritage through connecting with food and family.

Fairfield is home to one of the most culturally diverse communities in the world, with a rich Southeast Asian, Middle Eastern, South American, Eastern European, Pasifika and South Asian heritage. How do young people growing up in Australia as diaspora keep connection to their culture? A lot of the time it's through the sharing of food!

Video Mini-Series

In 2023 and 2024, local young people generously shared stories and recipes from their communities and childhoods. These 6 videos were written, filmed, narrated (and taste tested) by young people aged 12-24 with mentorship from local community and digital arts company, CuriousWorks. This video series was launched at a screening event in June 2024 at local youth theatre, PYT Fairfield. We thank PYT Fairfield and CuriousWorks for their support.

Cookbook

The One Pot at a Time: Fairfield Food Stories Cookbook is a collection of recipes and personal short-stories from young people of Fairfield City. Through this book, our contributors teach you their version of a beloved recipe from their families and communities as they explore their personal perspectives on culture. Check out the book below and cook alongside them as you enter a tiny part of their world – you might find you have a lot in common!

You can also download a digital copy of the cookbook(PDF, 5MB).
