God of Fortune for Lunar New Year in Cabramatta

Cabramatta will welcome the Year of the Cat and Rabbit with a fun-filled day of Lunar New Year celebrations on Saturday, 04 February, 11am-8pm, in the Cabramatta town centre.

The official ceremony led by Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone will take place at 11am.

Mayor Carbone said Council was proud to help families celebrate this significant cultural event.

“I look forward to seeing people from across Sydney enjoying the colour and culinary delights that make Fairfield City’s Cabramatta such a popular destination to visit,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Lunar New Year celebrations bring together friends and family to wish each other happiness, good health, success and prosperity for the year ahead,” he said.

“Thank you to the event sponsors that continue to support Council, enabling us to deliver these important community celebrations year after year. Be sure to drop in to their stalls and say hello.”

Freedom Plaza’s Mekong Activation Zone will see a full line-up of family activities and entertainment including a visit from the God of Wealth, caricature drawings, face painting, balloon twisting, a CareFlight HeliSim and more.

The popular Hello Kitty character will visit the ticketed Hello Kitty Craft Village to oversee lantern and cupcake making workshops and to meet and greet. The Arthur Street Fun Zone will keep the little ones entertained with amusement rides and carnival games, while the SBS lion dancing workshops in Park Road are sure to be a hit as well.

Vincent Lim (@DimSimLim) will visit the town centre thanks to Cabra-Vale Diggers, who are also bringing us the Plushie Path – find and follow the plushie cats and rabbits!

Celebrations will continue into the evening with DJ beats, special LED performers, lion dancing training and a spectacular fireworks finale at 8pm.

“There will be something for everyone at our Lunar New Year celebrations. Local food outlets will also be open until late, so please shop locally and show your support as this is a very important time of the year for them,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Start the Lunar New Year off with the best possible fortune by visiting Cabramatta and celebrating with its wonderful community right across the weekend.”

Cabramatta is just 45 minutes by train from the Sydney CBD and the station is in the heart of the shopping and dining precincts.
