Former SBS Radio producer is Fairfield City's Australia Day ambassador

Kumud Merani, former SBS Radio producer, actor and Premier’s Multicultural Media Award winner has been announced as Fairfield City’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2024.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said it was fitting to have a person with such professional and personal achievements, as ambassador for Fairfield City.

“It is our pleasure to have Kumud as our ambassador to help us celebrate our Australia Day community awards and residents receiving their Australian citizenship. I look forward to welcoming her to our City,” Mayor Carbone said.

After arriving in Australia, Kumud followed her passion for media and became a TV News Presenter at SBS World News. After a short time in the role, Kumud found her niche in radio becoming an Executive Producer at SBS Radio Hindi.

Kumud’s passion has always been in media with a career spanning more than 40 years and being India’s first TV News Presenter in Australia, Kumud is a well-known public figure in the Indian community. She has been a star as an actor in Logie nominated TV series ‘Five Bedrooms’ and producer in audio documentary ‘The Story Untold’ on connections between Indigenous Australians and Indian tribes. Kumud has directed and acted in several Indian theatrical shows in Sydney.

Ms Merani enjoys her work as a public speaker, educator, journalist, radio producer, actor and her role as Ambassador for the Australian Day Council.
