Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone has officially opened the modern and spacious Fairfield Library.

The new library at 1-3 Hamilton Road was opened on Saturday, 13 March.

“Fairfield Library is almost twice the size of the previous Fairfield Library site and has something for every resident, regardless of your age,” Mayor Carbone said.

“With more space, more desks, computers and tablets, magazines and books, access to all the online collections and a dedicated children’s area, Fairfield Library is everything that residents would expect of a flagship library.

“It is a vibrant community hub where residents can meet friends, play, study and learn or read.

“The new library is a big improvement over our previous library, which has served the community well for more than 40 years. Over this time, the needs of the community have evolved, and our libraries are evolving with them.”

Besides more space, there is also new comfortable seating and furniture, docking stations to charge phones and tablets, as well as plenty of quiet spaces to read and study. There are also spaces for residents to have a cup of coffee and chat together.

There is a games room with the latest technology, a meeting room with a whiteboard wall and a soundproof central meeting space for larger gatherings. There is a large children’s area to keep children enthralled - the first for Fairfield Library - with children’s books, play areas and a Lego wall.

Council invested $6 million on the library - $3 million to acquire the building and $3 million to refit the space. The library was constructed with funding assistance from the State Library of NSW.

Meanwhile, Council is busily converting the previous Fairfield Library site at Kenyon Street into a new Community and Business Hub, which will open later this year.

Council continues to invest in our community and into infrastructure to improve community facilities and quality of life for our residents.
