Fairfield Hospital update

I am pleased to provide you with an update on the upgrade to Fairfield Hospital, a project that has been a significant focus for both Council and the community.

Following our strong and collaborative advocacy campaign, the NSW Government committed to a $550 million upgrade of our hospital last year, and I am keeping you updated on its progress as promised.

Celebrate Australia Day

Australia Day is an important day of the year to celebrate and show gratitude for this country and what it means to be Australian.

For our City it is also a day to recognise the important contribution made to our society by community members through our Australia Day Community Awards.

Pool entry will be free on Sunday 26 January from 10am-4pm at Prairiewood and Fairfield leisure centre.

More recreational opportunities coming to our City

As Mayor, one of my key priorities has always been for residents to have the opportunity to lead healthier, more active lives.

The works at Avenel Fitness Park are steadily progressing, and once complete, residents can look forward to some of its state-of-the-art features.

We are also continuing with the transformation of Fairfield Showground.

The popular ‘Design the Mayor’s Christmas Card Competition’ is now open, we have a full program of free, family-friendly events lined up for Halloween and Christmas is a special time in our City with lots happening for everyone.

Enjoy two additional free kerbside pick-ups per year

We all want to live, work and play in a clean City - a City we can continue to be proud of as a place to raise a family and enjoy our environment.

I’m pleased to let you know that from 1 September, 2024 you will be able to book in an extra two free kerbside pick ups per year, as part of a 12-month trial. Every household will get four free collections in the financial year at no extra cost.

Upgrading smaller playgrounds near you

One of my main priorities as Mayor has been to ensure local families can get out in the sunshine, get active and get healthy together. We have been working hard on some great new major recreational projects such as Avenel Fitness Park and Endeavour Park sports park for residents to use. The work has been prioritised so the playgrounds most in need are upgraded first.
