Advocating for local metro stations

Over the past few years residents would be aware I have been advocating strongly for the government to investigate constructing a Metro train line from the new Western Sydney Airport to Parramatta, connecting through our City.

The metro is a "turn up and go" rail service with a train promised every two minutes. It will eventually connect to a network that runs right across Sydney.

Last week we received the good news that the State Government will commence identification of a metro train route, connecting the Western Sydney Airport and Westmead.

While we know it will take time, it's important for us to fight hard today to get a train line through our City to benefit our residents into our future.

It's important we continue to work hard to get stops in areas like Horsley Park, Cecil Park, Prairiewood and Smithfield, which are located along the way between Westmead and the future airport.

These areas also connect across our City through the T-Way. Prairiewood, including Fairfield Showground or the T-Way, would be a great location for one of the stations.

Fairfield City has been deprived of an effective, world-class public transport network for too long. This means that too many of our residents are commuting by cars and this forces a lot of traffic from surrounding areas through our suburbs.

A fast metro service will connect our residents quickly to jobs, universities, major cities and remove traffic congestion from our roads. This means less time for residents stuck in traffic and more time at home with their families or engaging in healthy, active pursuits.

The State Government's announcement to begin this investigation is good news, and we will continue to advocate to get the best results for our residents going forward.
