Celebrating 25 years of the Cabramatta Moon Festival
Published on 28 August 2025
Next month, Cabramatta will once again come alive with the sights, sounds and flavours of one of Australia’s most beloved cultural celebrations – the Cabramatta Moon Festival. And this year, we mark a truly special milestone, the 25th anniversary of this iconic event.
Over the years, the Cabramatta Moon Festival has brought together tens of thousands of visitors from across Sydney and beyond. It’s a celebration that reflects the very best of our City – vibrant, inclusive, and proudly multicultural.
This year’s festival promises to be our most exciting yet. In a national first, we are proud to host the inaugural National Lion Dance Competition – a spectacular showcase of skill, strength and cultural pride. Elite lion dance teams from across the country will converge in Cabramatta to compete in both traditional and high pole categories, transforming the city centre into an arena of colour and energy.
Of course, the festival will also feature all the favourites our community has come to love, from the children’s chopstick challenge and pho and mooncake eating competitions, to the enchanting lantern parade led by the moon goddess and archer. With food and market stalls, rides, free kids’ activities and live entertainment running from 11am to 8pm, there truly is something for everyone.
Thank you to the sponsors, volunteers and local businesses who have supported the event over the past 25 years. It’s a shining example of how grassroots cultural events can grow into national attractions, fostering harmony and understanding across communities.
I invite you all to join us in Cabramatta on Sunday 28 September for a day of celebration, connection and cultural pride. Let’s make this 25th anniversary one to remember — and set the stage for an even brighter future.
