Today is the beginning of NSW Youth Week and that means the highly anticipated return of our major youth-led Bring It On! Youth Festival. The event will be held at Fairfield Showground on Sunday 21 April from 12pm-6pm.

Organised by young people for young people, the free event is truly one of a kind, and I’m proud that for more than two decades Council has provided the stage for the region’s young people to put their skills, passions and strengths on show through art, music, sport and dance – all in a fun and safe environment.

This year’s festival promises a full program of live and local entertainment, free games and thrill-seeker rides, food trucks, market stalls, workshops and more.

The massive program includes live performances by P.Smid on the Main Stage; a basketball and volleyball precinct, podcast lounge, yard games and competitions, capped off with a roof-raising dance party with DJ Shadzz until 6pm.

I recently caught up with some members of the Fairfield Youth Advisory Committee who have been busy facilitating Youth Week programs across the City and preparing for the festival behind the scenes. It’s great to see so many young people volunteering their time to advocate for our City’s youth, while at the same time developing leadership and team building skills. I’m especially proud that Council provides a platform for our youth to be a positive voice for young people – to let us know what matters to them most and encourage them to participate in community life.

They have assured me that this year’s Bring It On! Youth Festival is tipped to be bigger than ever, so mark your calendars as this is one you don’t want to miss.

Fairfield Showground (Gate 6) will open at midday, and there’ll be a free bus service operating with pick up locations at Prairiewood Youth and Community Centre on Restwell Road and Think+DO Tank Community House at 40 Harris Street Fairfield. Find the details on Council’s website.

Be sure to follow the #BringItOnfest crew on Instagram for the latest on the festival and I look forward to seeing you at the show!
