Ethics Teacher

The Retail Volunteer will perform a variety of tasks including:

  •  Providing customers with an excellent shopping experience
  •  Sorting and pricing donations in relation to basic, fashion and designer brands.
  •  Assisting with product display via creative merchandising.
  •  Processing sales through the POS (point of sale) cash register.
  •  Keeping the store and sorting area tidy, whilst maintaining safe work practices.

CALD Inclusivity Volunteer / LGBQTI Inclusivity

Position Description: 
These positions support SWS Recovery College Expert Panel and staff, working alongside the Peer Trainer/Tutors.

The position follows team processes and procedures and provides an opportunity to undertake program activities including attending Inclusivity Group meetings and completing actions in liaison with Manager and Peer Trainers. Actions may include (but are not limited to) research, developing resources, reviewing training and making improvements.   
Hours can be negotiated between 2-15 hours per week (depending on program needs and volunteer availability).

Grants Writer

Time Commitment:  Wednesdays, ongoing, flexible (This can be performed remotely or on-site at CASA.)

Position Description: 

  • We are looking for a proactive and motivated individual with experience in grant writing, to obtain funds to build organisational capacity and fund critical community programs.
  • Identify funding opportunities from government grants and philanthropic organisations.
  • Organise and manage grant applications.
  • Draft grant applications, edit and update per feedback.
  • Setting up grants calendar and regularly updating this.
  • Explore potential new pathways for fundraising.

Community Visitor

Position Description: 

  • Community Visitors Scheme is seeking ladies who would enjoy sharing friendship with an older woman living in a local aged care home.
  • These lovely older ladies are feeling a bit lonely and are looking for friendship with someone who speaks their language.
  • If you are a mature aged lady who speaks Arabic, Farsi, Tagalog, or English and have time to offer in friendship, I would love to hear from you.
  • Volunteers must be double vaccinated against COVID and agree to undergo a police check.

Driving Mentor

Organisation: Gymea Community Aid & Information Service

Position Description: 
The Drive Time Mentor Volunteer provides supervised driving practice to selected refugee clients. All driving practice occurs in an insured automatic vehicle.

The objectives of the program are: Improve road safety outcomes supporting driver licensing disadvantaged communities to meet the Graduated Licensing Scheme (GLS) requirements, leading to reduced crash and injury rates.

Volunteers must:

  • Have not had an at fault accident in the previous two years
  • Have minimum of 3 years safe driving record

English Tutor

Position Description:

  • Tutors offer informal English Language tuition to new migrants and refugees with one on one lessons for 1 hour per week, face to face (online during Covid).
  • Anyone can be a tutor, even if your first language is not English, and teaching experience is not necessary.
  • Free training and resources are provided with ongoing support by a qualified teacher.
  • Engage meaningfully with members of your local community, helping people develop their English skills and settle in Australia.

Creative Writing Tutors

Description of Organisation: Story Factory is a not-for-profit creative writing centre for young people in under-resourced communities across Sydney and NSW. We build writing skills, confidence and creativity. 

Position Description:

  • Mentoring and supporting young people from under resourced communities.
  • Volunteer tutors support our students to write stories of all kinds which are published by Story Factory.
  • Our in-person workshops are run in schools and community groups in and around Sydney and Western Sydney, Monday to Friday between 8:30am - 3:30pm.
  • Our online workshops are run Zoom Monday to Thursday afternoons from 3pm - 5:30pm.

The Volunteer Recognition Program acknowledges volunteers who make a contribution in Fairfield City. Organisations are encouraged to register their volunteers with the program to receive a Mayoral Certificate of Appreciation. The program is open for registrations in July and August each year.
