Fairfield City Open Libraries hosted an open day in March at Fairfield Library to showcase the modern and spacious community hub. A number of family fun activities were hosted on the day.

Author Mark Howison showcased his book ’13 Pairs of Boots: The road travelled was only half the journey’. Howison spoke about his journey around Australia with his 17 year old son to raise money to protect kangaroos.

Fairfield City Museum & Gallery’s 2020/21 Artist in Residence Niramsin Yakou spoke about his Artist in Residency time at the Museum & Gallery and his upcoming exhibition ‘Fairiety Show’ which features a cross-cultural collection of art, music and performances inspired by his collaboration with Aboriginal, African, Asian, Assyrian, Australian, Bolivian, European and Spanish communities.

Other activities on the day included bi-lingual story time and craft sessions, movies aired in the StoryBox library, virtual reality experiences, Lego WeDo Robotics demonstrations and Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 gaming sessions.

Residents and visitors were able to find out more information on Fairfield City Open Libraries facilities, learning experience events, lab.LX/STEAM and Studio 2166.

Many children across our City embarked on a reading adventure in the 2021/2022 Mayor’s Summer Holiday Reading Program. The program encourages children to have fun, keep their minds active and keep learning over the summer school holidays. This year we had an amazing display of interest and love for reading by young people in our local community with 160 entrants.

Thank you to Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone along with Fairfield City Deputy Mayor Dai Le who attended the presentation at Whitlam Library and handed out prizes to our winners.

Congratulations to all the participants this year and we hope to see new and familiar faces at the 2022/2023 Mayor Summer Holiday Reading program.
